Individual Assessment & Development

The assessment and development of leaders is at the very core of our DNA. For more than 20 years, we have helped organisations meet their business objectives by releasing the power of their people.

The two primary strands for achieving this are: assessment – unlocking insights into a leader’s potential as well as their spike strengths and development areas; and development, releasing that leader’s true potential which will have a measurable benefit to the individual, their teams and their organisation.

In assessing and developing individuals, we focus and provide insight on the following:

Understanding the person

Our interventions are designed to understand what makes people unique and the distinctive strengths that they possess. We also work hard to truly understand what drives and motivates people, their core values and the sense of purpose that gives meaning to their lives. We believe that people are driven by certain experiences and assumptions that drive their approach to life. Deep understanding of what makes an individual tick informs both our assessment, as well as our development/coaching work.

Leadership and functional skills

We work to understand, given the psychology of the individual and their work experience, their strengths and weaknesses with respect to leadership capability, as well as key areas of functional skill. This can be reported back against a client’s own leadership framework or against YSC’s own models of leadership. We also seek to understand the environments and contexts in which they have excelled or struggled. This allows us to provide clear feedback to an organisation on how an individual will play out within specific roles and in their context.


We have clear views on what drives potential, and we explore this and feedback to organisations on the likely future trajectory of the individuals we assess. In our development work, we also anchor our interventions to an individual’s future goals and aspirations and push people hard to identify what will invigorate them for the next stage of their life journey.

How our assessments are experienced

We receive overwhelmingly positive feedback around the sensitivity, usefulness and rigour of our assessment process. Specifically, we get strong feedback in the following areas:

  • Adult-adult, user friendly and insightful: A recent client feedback study suggested that 96% of individuals assessed by YSC believed the experience had raised their self-awareness and 90% reported that they had changed as a result.
  • Developmentally useful: All our assessments, whether for assessment, benchmarking or development purposes, have a strong developmental flavour. Even the best leaders feel stretched and challenged by our approach.
  • Accuracy: We receive overwhelmingly positive feedback about the accuracy of our process. A recent survey of 332 participants (comprised of eight multinational clients) found that 95% of participants considered their assessment report to be an accurate reflection of themselves.
